Diana studied biology at the University of Virginia and graduated in Physical Therapy at the Medical College of Virginia in 1986. She worked in general orthopedic physical therapy for several years, and then she began to specialize in the upper extremity. She was certified in hand rehabilitation in 1992. Subsequently she worked at UNC Hand Center and Duke Medical Center. During this time, she noticed that some people did not improve to her expectations despite her best efforts. In her search for how to help these folks who did not respond to conventional intervention, she encountered many different methods and ideas about movement and wellness. One idea that was most resilient was the Feldenkrais Method®.
Often we look outside ourselves for “the Fix,” whether it be to loosen tight muscles or scar, strengthen our core, or re-align our structure. Rarely does it occur to us that our unconscious patterns of holding and moving also contribute to the picture. Our habits of movement evolve from our life experience, for better or worse. The Feldenkrais Method® is a movement based method of practice for increasing one’s self-awareness.
Diana studied the Feldenkrais Method® and became a certified practitioner in 2003. Since that time, she has worked with people who have persistent pain that has been resistant to other interventions, helping them to find ways to move with greater ease and integrity.
